Expected Date of Release

Apple will introduce the successor model of AirTag, codenamed B589, in mid-2025, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. Product Gurman reported that the product has entered manufacturing tests, which is a very good indicator that it is coming close to a much-awaited release.

In October 2023, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that mass production for the new AirTag had been delayed from late 2024 to 2025. Why it is being delayed is unclear, but Kuo and Gurman both believe that the accessory will debut sometime next year.

New Features and Upgrades

The AirTag 2 will apparently add the following upgrades:

  • Upgraded Chip for Precise Tracking: It is said to pack an advanced chip, which might be the generation two Ultra Wideband chip used in iPhone 15 models. This could better the accuracy of tracking.
  • Improved Built-In Speaker: The new AirTag will have a redesigned speaker that will make it more difficult to take out, thus making it harder for stalkers to track their target.
  • Range: It will have a better range as it is expected to enable Precision Finding over longer distances.
  • Design Similarities: While functionality will improve, the design of the AirTag 2 is expected to be similar to the original model.

Possible Integration with Vision Pro

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the AirTag 2 might come with Vision Pro integration from Apple’s headset, though no details on this functionality are known yet. This could change the way the AirTag interacts in Apple’s ecosystem.

These expected updates make AirTag 2 really an advanced and secure tracking solution that strengthens its rank as one of the key players in Apple’s lineup of accessories.
