WAILEA, Hawaii – Remi is a pretty dog, and he represents the same challenge most pets pose: he rarely sits still for photos. With the Snapdragon 8 Elite from Qualcomm, the new AI-enhanced pet photo suite is said to help take those best shots, even when the furry friend is not in a photogenic mood.

Qualcomm has just launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is an integrated system on a chip, much more than a fast processor. Sure, it delivers leading high performance and power efficiency. Still, it helps even more behind an enhanced image coming out from a camera through its additional feature called AI Image Signal Processor or ISP. With 35% faster pixel processing speeds and up to 4.3 gigapixels per second, the AI ISP sticks directly into the Hexagon neural processor, so you aren’t losing photos in real-time adjustments. “Limitless segmentation” means the ISP divides images into more than 250 layers to fine-tune each.

Qualcomm demoed these at the Snapdragon Summit in a pet-friendly setup, where attendees were allowed to see the results up close. Remi and other adorable dogs charmed the audience by exhibiting the new technology’s possibilities.

The AI-based pet photography tools have three main modes. One triggers the camera based on when your pet looks at the lens and then quickly snaps a series of shots for you to pick your favourite. In the other mode, you get a burst of shots over a longer duration so that AI can take its pick and select the best one for you based on your choice.

The third is action shots, ideal for those pet-performing pets. It employs AI ISP segmentation technology, which can sharpen little details, say a pet’s fur, even when it’s moving at breakneck speed. Say no more to action shots with image blur. Aspiring clear, crisp shots are in. In the demo, Qualcomm showed Remi jumping to catch a tennis ball. Such an image emerged, showing each strand of his fur as he stretched for the ball.
