Google is putting on a stage its AI Gemini, an ability to generate images using its advanced AI image generation model, Imagen 3—all free. Earlier, only Gemini Advanced subscribers used this feature through the web; now, everyone has access to this functionality- not only on the web but also within a mobile application and integrated Android devices. This update makes AI picture makers much more accessible to everyone, so you can give those cool features a shot without having a paid membership.
Overview of Imagen 3’s Capabilities
Imagen 3 is the new model announced at Google’s I/O earlier this year. This has been the most significant improvement thus far from what Google has done on image generation. Developed by DeepMind, the AI research arm of Google, Imagen 3 works just like other industry leaders such as Midjourney and Flux, including a full square format image with high realism. The model has improved over the previous one, Imagen 2, mainly because it offers richer and more detailed visuals while seeing improved results in terms of how it understands user prompts through Gemini.
However, this feature, in its free version, has limitations. For example, free users can create different images. However, in the pictures of people, only subscribers of Gemini Advance can view them, and they have to pay $19 a month.

Key Improvements in Imagen 3
Finally, version 3 of the model has matured into a far more sophisticated product. Unlike the previous versions, it addressed issues such as overly cautious handling of human images and creating images that seemed too unnatural for human eyes. The model was now able to simulate realness in pictures and simultaneously carry the nuances from user descriptions. This easy visualization by users made their ideas a reality more easily.

Despite all those impressive strides, there are still some limitations in Imagen 3. While OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 can create images in various orientations and sizes, Google’s Imagen 3 only supports square images. Sometimes, the model just flat out refuses to generate complex or detailed scenes, such as a person sitting in a café on a moon base.
Enhanced Image Analysis with AI Vision
Apart from the image generation feature, another new feature Google has is AI Vision, which has made Gemini’s capability to think about images more diverse. AI Vision enables users to upload pictures directly to Gemini for analysis. The functionality allows an AI to define content in a picture, which is useful for practical tasks, like finding missing things in a room or preparing recipes based on visible ingredients.

Can Gemini generate images for free?
Freeing Imagen 3 removes the limitations on Google AI and opens it to the ever-frugal masses. The free tier user can now easily generate a wide range of images from the simplest text prompt so that amateurs and creatives can play around with AI-generated visuals on a budget. For example, if generating images of humans is only allowed in the Advanced tier, the free-tier user still enjoys better realism and detail.

This update also aligns with Google’s vision for more and more people to experience the power of state-of-the-art AI, enabling them to create AI-generated visuals. So, with capabilities that now match those of another leading image generator, DALL-E 3, Google takes a strong stand in the game while reaching its enthusiastic and new user bases.
