Pestle recipe app can now save dishes from TikTok

Pestle, a recipe app developed by Will Bishop in 2022, is now allowing users to transform TikTok recipe videos into step-by-step instructions using AI. The tool analyzes the video captions of creators where they usually post ingredients and steps. Unlike other tools, Pestle relies on on-device machine learning rather than third-party AI, which ensures faster performance and better privacy. It follows the same feature introduced for Instagram Reels this year.

It’s already known for saving web recipes, making shopping lists, planning meals, and even cooking hands-free with voice commands. Users, however, have been asking for a way to save recipes from social media. Initially, Bishop was hesitant due to the complexity of parsing social media content and concerns about privacy with external AI tools like ChatGPT. By focusing on on-device AI, Pestle now provides a solution that respects user privacy while meeting the demand for social media recipe saving.

This feature makes it easy to save viral TikTok recipes like baked feta pasta or creative cucumber dishes directly in the app. Users simply share the TikTok video with Pestle, and the app extracts the recipe, including ingredients, instructions, and even nutritional information.
