Huawei has launched its latest lineup of smartwatches, featuring the Watch GT 5 Series and the Watch D2. These new watches offer a perfect combination of design, battery life, and advanced features. This year, they come with the upgraded TruSense health monitoring system, which was announced ahead of the official release. A new titanium version is also introduced, offering a lightweight yet durable body. Additionally, there’s the new Watch D2, which provides reliable blood pressure measurements for users who want accurate health data.
Huawei Watch GT 5
The Huawei Watch GT 5 comes in two sizes: 41mm and 46mm, just like the previous model. The screen sizes remain the same as before – 1.32 inches for the smaller model and 1.43 inches for the larger one. These watches are made from 316L stainless steel, and Huawei has made the smaller model 0.3mm thinner than last year’s version, offering a sleeker design.
You also have a choice of different wrist straps, including metal, leather, plastic, and woven options. The 46mm model comes in a striking Blue color, inspired by the ocean, while the 41mm model has a simpler design to make it more compact.
These new watches feature an improved antenna and an upgraded algorithm for better GPS positioning. Route accuracy is up by 40%, distance accuracy by 30%, and pace accuracy by 20%.
The TruSense health system includes standard health features like heart rate and blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring, as well as sleep tracking. This system has also improved the Sleep Breathing Awareness feature from the previous GT 4 series by adding Sleep Apnea Detection. Women’s health tracking is included, and an interesting new feature is emotional well-being tracking, although this feature won’t be available in Europe.
Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro
The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro is also available in two sizes: 42mm and 46mm. The smaller model is 0.9mm thinner than last year’s GT 3 Pro, which was a 43mm model.
The Pro models stand out with their titanium bodies, making them both lightweight and strong. The 42mm version also includes ceramic in its design, with ceramic straps, while the 46mm version uses either titanium or fluoroelastomer straps. Both models feature sapphire glass for durable, scratch-resistant displays.
A key feature of the Pro models is their ability to take ECG readings (electrocardiograms), which can be done in 30 seconds.
For athletes, the improved GPS accuracy enhances running and cycling experiences. The watches also support offline maps with route previews, showing altitude changes and terrain details. They provide real-time directions, including off-course alerts for trail running or cross-country environments. The GT 5 Pro integrates with the Komoot app for route planning, and after your run, the watch provides a Running Form Analysis to give insights into ground contact time, balance, and more.
In total, the watches support over 100 workout modes, including a Free Diving mode that works at depths of up to 40 meters (130 feet). The Pro models are also rated IP69K for resistance to high-pressure hot water jets and salt spray corrosion.
For golfers, there are over 15,000 golf course maps available, with 3D previews and directions. You can even keep score using the built-in scorecard. This feature will be available in 69 countries by the end of the month.
Battery Life
Both the Huawei Watch GT 5 and GT 5 Pro have excellent battery life. The smaller 41mm and 42mm models can last 5 days with the Always-On Display (AOD) turned on, and up to 7 days with regular use. The larger 46mm models can last 9 days with AOD and up to 14 days in regular mode. The Pro models support wireless charging and can be fully charged in just 60 minutes.
Huawei Watch D2
The Huawei Watch D2 is a specialized health-focused smartwatch. It has an inflatable wrist strap that works like a traditional blood pressure cuff, providing more reliable readings than watches with optical sensors. The Watch D2 is approved by both the EU’s MDR and China’s NMPA for accuracy. The cuff inflates automatically throughout the day, even while you sleep.
The D2 also features an optical sensor for heart rate tracking, ECG, and a skin temperature sensor. It has a larger 1.82-inch OLED display (408 x 480 pixels), up from 1.64 inches on the previous model. The watch measures 48 x 38 x 13.3mm and weighs 85g, packing in an air pump and blood pressure sensor.
Huawei Watch Ultimate
Huawei has also introduced a new color for the Huawei Watch Ultimate: Green. This watch features a dual-color nano-tech ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal glass. It uses Zirconium-based liquid metal for added durability and now comes with new green wrist straps in different materials, including HNBR rubber and premium titanium.
