Google Pauses Wear OS 5 Update for Pixel Watch: What You Need to Know

OS 5 Update for Pixel Watch

It seems that Google has paused the rollout of the Wear OS 5 update for pixel watch or both the first-generation Pixel Watch and the Pixel Watch 2. This comes after some users reported that their devices were soft bricked during the update process.

Over the past few hours, many Pixel Watch users have been unable to download the Wear OS 5 update. Going to Settings > System > System updates and repeatedly tapping doesn’t bring up the update anymore, which had worked earlier in the week. While the factory and OTA images for manual installation are still available online, the official update seems to have been halted.

The majority of users who installed the Wear OS 5 update did so without any issues. However, some owners of the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 encountered a problem where their device displayed a black screen with only a small Bluetooth logo at the bottom. It’s unclear why this is happening, but it has caused frustration for those affected.

Fortunately, there is a fix for the problem. Users can reset their devices through Fastboot and then set them up again. Instructions for doing this are available online, and the process is relatively simple, especially for users who have a Google One backup to restore from. Still, this is far from the ideal experience, and many users would prefer a smoother update process.

Given the situation, it makes sense that Google has temporarily pulled the Wear OS 5 update to investigate and address the issue. This pause should allow Google to figure out the root cause and prevent more users from encountering the problem.
