Apple's M4 MacBook Air Could Arrive Earlier Than Expected

Apple has a pretty active 2025 beginning. Rumors have teased an early release for the updated M4 MacBook Air, yet initial reports suggest multiple simultaneous launches. New insights reveal that the M4 MacBook Air might turn up earlier than the rest.

As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has suggested, new iPads, iPhone SE 4, and M4-powered MacBook Airs will be unveiled in early 2025. The MacBook Air may be updated before March 2025. Testing reveals these devices may include an ultra-wide webcam with Center Stage technology.

Apple’s M3 MacBook Air was released in March 2024, just over six months after the refreshed cycle for the 15-inch model launched in June 2023. The 13-inch variant had not been updated in two years, as its last refresh came in June 2022. This timeline suggests the M4 MacBook Air may continue following the March release date.

Meanwhile, Apple’s new iPads and iPhone SE 4 are expected in April. The base iPad 11 might include two models identified by the codes J481 and J482. Further, the iPad Air might get an M4 chip, though it is said to have been updated with an M2 processor in May 2024.

This early launch of the M4 iPad Air may make it a high-performance but affordable alternative to the iPad Pro. Such features as ProMotion displays, Thunderbolt ports, and sleek designs might be the differentiators in Apple’s Pro lineup. Some rumors suggest that the M5-powered iPad Pro will come out at the tail end of 2025, further opening up the gap between models.

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to look like the iPhone 14, have a single rear camera, and come with the powerful A17 Pro chip, which will unlock advanced Apple Intelligence capabilities.

Timings are unclear, especially now that a new iPad OS 18.3 is rumored to accompany the latest iPad 11. Potentially, iPadOS 18.3 may be released earlier. If so, the MacBook M4 Air could soon hit sales floors in January or February, possibly iPads.
