T-Mobile has reportedly been the target of a series of cyberattacks believed to have originated in China. Several US-based telecommunication companies, including AT&T and Verizon, have also faced similar attacks in the past months. According to an updated report, Chinese hackers may have breached T-Mobile’s network amid this broader campaign.

The company’s systems and customer data were not involved in this breach, The Wall Street Journal reported, which stated that T-Mobile is aware of the threats and is constantly watching the situation. It added that the specifics of when these attacks happened need to be clarified. Still, authorities have reported the cases to be an offshoot of Chinese intelligence groups that target sensitive, high-value information.

T-Mobile made an official statement on the issue:
T-Mobile closely follows this industry-wide attack. As a result of its robust security measures, network structure, and vigilant monitoring, there has been no significant impact on T-Mobile systems or data. There is no sign of unauthorized access to or exfiltration of customers or other sensitive information as may have happened to other companies. We continue to stay on top of this situation and work closely with the industry peers and relevant authorities.

Other US telecom service providers have also recently been hacked by China. According to the FBI, the hackers had accessed AT&T and Verizon for eight months, compromising thousands of Americans. The breach had targeted the campaign staff of the presidential candidates. According to reports, hackers had accessed logs of calls and SMSes from those who communicated with the breached systems. While there are similarities, no direct relationship between this attack and the one disclosed on T-Mobile has been confirmed.
